Bio | Gilbert Reid is a writer and broadcaster. His most recent works of fiction are "Son of Two Fathers" - a 666-page novel set in the Italian Renaissance, co-authored with the late Jacqueline Park (House of Anansi Press, 2019), "Lava and Other Stories" (Twin Rivers Productions, 2019), "So This is Love," (Twin Rivers Productions, 2019, earlier editions with Key Porter in Canada, and St. Martin's Press in the US). Forthcoming: a seven-volume superheroine science fiction - or speculative fiction - series and, authored by his alter-ego, Gwendoline Clermont, an erotic trilogy. Gilbert Reid also writes, television, and radio documentaries. Radio credits are many programs and series with CBC IDEAS, including "Gilbert Reid's Italy" and "Gilbert Reid's France" (both five hours). TV credits include East Meets West (with Peter Ustinov), Machine Gun, For King and Empire, For King and Country, and many others. For thirty years, he lived and worked in Europe. He served as a diplomat in Ottawa, London, and Rome. He was an economist — working on international economic policy coordination — at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris; for six years, at the University of Messina in Sicily, he taught English and 19th and early 20th century English Literature — from Jane Austen to James Joyce — to wonderful groups of students from Sicily and Calabria. As a journalist and book reviewer, Reid has written for The Times Literary Supplement, The Globe and Mail, Il Tempo, and many other publications; once, he worked as an adventure travel guide for the French company Nouvelles Frontières in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. |
