Bio An award-winning playwright, Jennifer Wynne Webber writes and publishes in multiple genres and is the author of three books. Her first, a novel entitled DEFYING GRAVITY, was published in 2000 by Coteau Books and was subsequently nominated for three Saskatchewan Book Awards, including Book of the Year. Her stage play, BESIDE MYSELF was published by Scirocco Drama in 2001. Her most recent play, WITH GLOWING HEARTS: How Ordinary Women Worked Together to Change the World (And Did), was published by Scirocco Drama in 2019. That play has been produced at Vancouver Island’s TheatreOne, and at Saskatchewan’s Dancing Sky Theatre, where it was subsequently nominated for seven SATAwards (Saskatoon & Area Theatre Awards), ultimately winning the awards for both “Outstanding Production” and “Outstanding Original Script.” An earlier one-act version of the play also won the “Best of the Fest” Award at the 2016 Saskatoon Fringe Theatre Festival. Her play, “White Lies,” was published in the literary journal, Ryga and, under its former title “Whistling at the Northern Lights,” was also selected as one of Canada’s top five plays for Neue Theaterstücke aus Kanada, a Berlin-based Canada-Germany theatre playwriting competition. Two of Jennifer’s plays have also received Off-Broadway staged readings. Jennifer’s background includes thirteen years working as a CBC television journalist in Alberta and Saskatchewan, an honours degree in history from the University of Saskatchewan, an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, and many years spent working as a professional actor at theatres from Vancouver to Montreal. She now lives on Vancouver Island.
