| Bio | The author was brought up in colonial Hong Kong. His father was an actor, a best-selling historical novel writer, and a freedom fighter during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The author attended Hong Kong’s La Salle College—an elite English boys’ school run by Irish Catholic brothers—during his formative years. He once aspired to join the clergy. After graduating with an engineering degree from McMaster University in Canada, he became a pioneer of Chinese language television in his adopted country. He later lived in China for two decades working in the broadcast and telecommunications technologies industry. During that period, he witnessed and experienced the country’s meteoric rise. The author’s artistic heritage, scientific education, life and work experiences, mixed Chinese and Western cultural background, unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and his unorthodox perception of reality, is the fertile soil that gives rise to his unique literary style. |
