Bio Patti Zonta is an actor, singer, former Registered Medical Radiation Technologist, and published author. She holds a BA in English Literature and Cultural Studies from McMaster University. Having begun her degree at the University of Western Ontario in the Natural Sciences Honours program, Patti completed her degree as a mature student at McMaster University while working full-time in a teaching hospital and raising her family. She also has experience as Production Editor and Substantive Editor for medical books and journals and was short-listed for a writing project for the Mayo Clinic. Patti’s children’s book, Jessica’s X-Ray, is published and distributed by Firefly Books, Ltd.: Toronto, New York and is now in its 3rd printing. Geared to the 5 – 8 year-old set, Jessica’s X-Ray can be found in every grade-school library across Canada. Jessica’s X-Ray is the story of a little girl who breaks her arm when she falls from a tree. X-Ray, Ultrasound, Cat Scan, and MRI images on mylar film are included in the book. Available in paperback and e-book formats, Jessica’s X-Ray clearly explains diagnostic-imaging tests, encourages curiosity and conversation, and hopefully helps alleviate fear of diagnostic-imaging tests for folks at any age. Jessica’s X-Ray has been well-received globally and promoted by medical, science, and educational communities and reviews, such as the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Ontario Library Association, the North American Montessori Association, Toronto Sick Children’s Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, NASA Connects, Quill & Quire, and many more. It is also included in ESL programs. As an actor, Patti has performed lead and supporting roles in theatre, radio, tv, film, and voice-acting. Locally, and under the direction of the late Peter Mandia, Patti was one of the six founding members of the Theatre Aquarius Young Company, Theatre Aquarius Theatre School, and Caesar’s Dinner Theatre, (professional repertoire company). Most of her performing experience has been on Canadian soil: Hamilton, Toronto, Montreal, and Cape Breton. While performing on the set of the movie, “Heartsounds”, (James Garner, Mary Tyler Moore), Patti met, and had many fascinating conversations with, Mr. Garner. Patti also performed the one-woman play, “Sarah’s Daughters”, written and directed by Dr. Jeff Nisker, one of Canada’s top-ethicists. “Sarah’s Daughters” is a one-act play about the BrCa gene which is believed to cause some breast-cancers. After having seen a performance, Shirley Elford, (designer of the Juno Award statuette), personally presented Dr. Nisker and Patti each with one of her beautiful glass-angels. In 2001, Patti performed with Hamilton ON’s St. Joseph’s Church Choir in Rome and Florence, Italy. One of the tunes performed, Vivaldi’s Gloria in D, can be heard on the commercially available CD, Vivaldi on the Terrace. You can find Patti singing locally at karaoke, open mics, and with Choir Nation, Hamilton. Patti has written freelance articles, theatre previews, and theatre reviews for The Hamilton Spectator, View Magazine, and Professional Sound Magazine. She is skilled in translating technical lingo into everyday language. Patti has also studied Copy-editing, Substantive-editing, Public Relations, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Anthropology, Philosophy, Anatomy, and Pathology at the university undergraduate level and has professional experience as an Event-Planner. Born and raised in Hamilton, ON, Patti is proud to call this city “home”.
