Musician, personal trainer, and activist, Shon Wong wrote the song “I Found it All Inside” and recorded it with the band Son of James to bring awareness to the issue of racism and hate. Wong was one of the first of many artists to use art in the community as a response to the rise of anti-Asian violence in the wake of the pandemic and his efforts were covered by news and media outlets across Canada. Join in for an engaging session with Shon Wong with a wide-ranging discussion on art, music, and race and listen to some of the latest tunes from this Vancouver musician.
Shon Wong, performer known as Son of James, was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. At a young age growing up with a family of Chinese Opera actors and performers, music and art has always been a big part of his life. Son of James blends the soulful sounds of rock and funk with the mystical sounds of Chinese Instrumentation. Like a big rig rolling down a dusty highway carrying a cargo full of silk, Son of James calls their sound “Chynatruckerfunk”.
