Happy Sands is a novella about a boozy judgmental massage therapist on a working vacation in the Okanagan. Published by the University of Calgary’s Brave and Brilliant imprint, recognized by CBC as a book to watch for in the fall of 2021 and one of “23 funny books for your holiday shopping list”, and shortlisted as Alberta Trade Fiction Book of the Year at the 2022 Alberta Book Publishing Awards.

Excerpt:

DAY 1: Call me Ginny. My real name is Ginette -- but to me, that sounds like a too small bottle of booze, the kind you used to get on airplanes. I'm a massage therapist. My forearms are tanks, not tankettes.... I'm rounding the corner to twenty years in this profession; I'm good at it, and I've made a lot of people feel better. I even do massages during my annual summer vacation at Happy Sands. For the money, but also because I like helping people.Well, most people.

Reviews:on Canadian Living Magazine, December 2021:

"A family getaway goes awry in this humorous heartwarming Canadian story.”

Fred Stenson, author of The Trade wrote:

"The problem with family vacations is often the family. Wit with edge and the 'happy' hard won."
