Canada Fiction Fest is the brainchild of Ottawa fantasy author N.P. Thompson. Like all the best things in life, it started with a question: “What if…?”
In this case, it was actually a series of questions:
- “What if there was an event where Canadian authors — traditionally published, independent, and hybrid — all worked together to bring attention to the Canadian book scene and wealth of literary talent we have in this country?”
- “What if there was a place where people could browse a whole bunch of books written by Canadian authors from all across the country, so they could SEE the awesomeness that is available right here at home?”
- “What if we ALSO had events, like discussions and readings that people could watch?”
- “And what if this was all completely online so that anyone with an Internet connection could have fun with it, no matter where they lived, or what their health, mobility, or financial limitations might be?”
When N.P. initially reached out to a few author friends about the possibility of running such an event, there seemed to be a lot of interest. So, she threw herself into researching and coding and website building and form testing and generally burning the candle at both ends while also juggling a full-time day job and working on her next book.
This is the result.
