Dick talked through all that had just happened without batting an eyelash. The more time we spent that day listening to Dick’s stories about his cabin, the more we realized that something was off the mark, as one tale seemed to contradict the next. When we first arrived, I noticed a framed piece of paper with some writing on it, attached to the front door of the cabin. I paid little attention to it, as I assumed it might be a poem or saying one often finds attached to cabin doors as a welcome to guests.
READ MOREI let the spaghetti soak in the warm water for a while, hoping that it would soften up enough to swallow. Unpacking some crunchy cookies to complement our crunchy meal, I heard Dick make an announcement. He said, “We’re only staying here overnight, as this cabin belongs to a friend.” He continued, “My cabin is two miles away from here down that trail over there, so we’ll go have a look in the morning.” Wow, Dick’s mysterious carryings on were making more sense. No wonder he didn’t know where anything was in this cabin. It didn’t belong to him. Why didn’t he tell us what his plan was from the beginning? What was he hiding?
COLLAPSEKaren Howard wrote:"Your book is the first I've read in a long time just for the sake of reading. I had forgotten the pleasure of being drawn into a story, so I thank you for that, too. This book stirred the same feelings I had as a child reading Little House in the Big Woods."
Joanne Kearsey wrote:“I thoroughly enjoyed reading Landry’s introspective reasons for writing her book. Turning dreams into reality is a rare accomplishment. Her descriptions of facts from a bygone era, paint vivid pictures of simpler times, enriching the narrative of wilderness life. Landry’s descriptions of the many characters in her story make them jump off the page. It is a creative and interesting work; that will have you nestled in your favorite chair, enjoying a cup of coffee; and not rising until you finish both.”
Eleanor Hines wrote:“What a fascinating journey. An inspiring story of a couple’s courage to live their dream. I sometimes felt as if I were there looking on. I was sad to finish it; I wanted more. It is an excellent book and I plan to re-read it to absorb the experience more deeply.”
“A journey to completeness. The account was well-written, a testament to the author’s enduring fascination with a life in the woods.”
