Author Talk – Poems Line By Line – with Renée Sarojini Saklikar
This month’s topic, with Renée Sarojini Saklikar:
Renée Sarojini will share with us the secrets of her writing, and the rewards and challenges she has encountered. She will read and walk us through one or two of her poems line by line, explain how to experience these poems and their images, and examine their construction – pointing to the language, the line breaks, the themes, the mood, and the overall effect. After her presentation you will have a better appreciation of the art of poetry, and may even want to write some poetry of your own.

About The Speaker:
Renée Sarojini Saklikar is the author of five books, including the award -winning Children of Air India and Listening to the Bees. Her essays and short fiction have appeared in literary magazines and anthologies, such as Exile Editions, Chatelaine, The Capilano Review, and Pulp Literature.
The latest volume of her epic fantasy in verse, Bramah’s Quest, is forthcoming with Nightwood Editions in 2023. She was the poet laureate of the City of Surrey (2015-2018). She teaches creating writing and editing, including law and ethics for writers at universities and colleges in Metro Vancouver. She is the co-founder and curator of the poetry series Lunch Poems at SFU, Her work has been adapted for opera, and for visual art and dance.
