Joan Marie Galat has been a professional writer since the mid-1970s, when she was first paid as a newspaper columnist. She had been writing books for three years already, but it wasn’t until she was twelve that this Albertan was first paid to write a regular column in the local newspaper.

Joan is an International Award Winning Author; she has published more than twenty children’s books, some of which are available in other languages. She is a motivational speaker on STEM and STEAM topics: STEM standing for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; whereas STEAM is STEM combined with the arts. Indeed, she spoke in Seoul, Korea, at the United Nations Environmental Programme talk concert on the topic of “The Nature of Night,” exploring climate change and the relationship between art and science in our Earth and sky environments.

Her company MoonDot Media has been providing writing, editing, and corporate training for more than twenty-five years.

Joan has a new, as-yet-untitled release coming out in 2023. Her agent Stacey Kondla with The Right Factory says this about Joan’s skills: “Joan’s ability to take adult-seeming subject matter and make it truly accessible and interesting to middle-grade kids is spectacular. This is going to be a life-changing book for many children.”
