About Us

We Are Writers Helping Writers

Canadian Authors-Metro Vancouver Branch (Including Victoria) is part of the national Canadian Authors Association, a membership-based organization that offer aspiring, emerging, and professional writers opportunities and resources to hone their writing and business skills, network with others, and thrive in a community of like-minded professionals.

Founded in 1921 by Stephen Leacock and other prominent writers to lobby for the protection of authors’ rights, Canadian Authors has continued to pursue this objective to this day.

Events
Regular events in Vancouver are held on the second Wednesday of the month, except July. Our guest speakers are experts on a variety of topics, all to do with writing. We organize seasonal socials in August and December and participate in a variety of writing-related community events throughout the year.

All regular events are held at the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture, 938 Howe Street, Suite 100, Vancouver. Members attend at no charge, and the public is welcome. Cost for non-members is $10 and students with ID are $5.

The Victoria group organizes events in the Victoria area approximately every two months. For information, and to sign up for their event notification, please subscribe to their contact list.

Programs
We coordinate writers’ circles within the Metro Vancouver area.

Executive
The Canadian Authors-Metro Vancouver Branch (Including Victoria) is managed by an executive board. All positions are volunteer. For more information about us, please send an email to Branch President Kathleen Schmitt at VANpresident@canadianauthors.org.
