Bio | Tonya Liburd shares a birthday with Ray Bradbury and Simeon Daniel, which may tell you a little something about her; and while she has an enviable collection of vintage dust bunnies to her credit, her passions are music (someday!) and of course, words. One day she hopes, when introducing herself as a writer, she won't feel all weird about it. She has been nominated for the 2017 and 2018 Rhysling Awards, and has been longlisted in the 2015 Carter V. Cooper(Vanderbilt)/Exile Short Fiction Competition. Nisi Shawl and Tananarive Due both use her work in their workshops and courses. Her story “A Stitch In Time” in the Survivor anthology, co-edited by Mary Anne Mohanraj, has been called a “Standout story” by Publisher’s Weekly; her story “Superfreak” in Laksa Media’s Shades Within Us anthology has been hailed as “a powerful look at the protagonist taking control of her life and her body” by Rich Horton over at Locus Magazine, the Barnes and Noble SFF blog has said of her story “Bootleg Jesus” in the Diabolical Plots Year Five Anthology that “Liburd expertly brings out the darkness of the story while allowing her young protagonists to shine.” She is also the Senior Editor of Abyss & Apex Magazine.
