Border City Blues by Michael Januska | |
Bio | Michael Januska was born and raised in Windsor. It was while studying at university and reading works such as Joyce’s Dubliners he first got the notion to write about the people, streets, and neighbourhoods that make up the Border Cities. After then reading tales from Marty Gervais’ The Rumrunners: A Prohibition Scrapbook, strands began to form a small tapestry. Gervais’ book opened a door to something wild and almost unimaginable yet for some people was their day-to-day life. While developing characters and themes for what would become Border City Blues, Januska began writing short stories, notably “Not Even the River Would Have Him” and “They Gave Him the Gears.” His first novel, Riverside Drive, was published in 2013. Globe and Mail’s Margaret Cannon praised the book, saying, “This is a writer to watch.” The follow-up, Maiden Lane, was published in 2015. Joan Barfoot in The London Free Press said the novel was “bold, bewildering.” His third novel, Prospect Avenue will be released in October and he is currently working on the next in the series, St. Luke Road. Januska lives in Toronto with his wife and daughter. He writes to find out what happens in the end. |
