Bio After spending several years roaming the Yukon with backpack and camera and armed wiith a degrees in archaeology, history museum studies and apprenticeship in museum Conservation, Michael was hired as the Curator of Collections for Klondike National Historic Sites in Dawson City, a position he held for twenty years before becoming the culktrual resource management specialist for the Yukon Field Unit, Parks Canada. During this time, he led an initiative to recover a horde of silent movie films from permafrost, led the flood recovery of the large artifact collection held by Parks Canada in Dawson City and was the team leader in the restoration of the Commissioner's Residence in Dawson City, which was opened by then Prime Minister Jean Chretien in 1996. He is the author of a popular history column in the Yukon News for the past 16 years, and has spoken and lectured widely in Canada, the United States and Europe. He currently lives in Whitehorse, Yukon, with his wife, Kathy. On January 1, 2021, Michael was appointed the first Story Laureate for Yukon.
