Bio | Deirdre Kelly is a published author, award-winning arts critic, features, writer fashion columnist and investigative reporter. A graduate of the University of Toronto, she joined The Globe and Mail newspaper immediately upon graduating with a Master's degree in English Literature. As a valued staff writer, she rose to international prominence as the paper's dance critic during a 32-year career in which she served also as the paper's pop music critic, entertainment columnist, Montreal cultural bureau chief, investigative reporter in the visual arts, senior fashion reporter, real estate columnist, business reporter and Custom Content marquee writer. Concomitant to her work at The Globe and Mail, she has worked as freelance writer for Vogue, Marie Claire, Interview and Dance Gazette, among other global publishing titles. Her 2009 memoir, Paris Times Eight, and her 2012 cultural history book, Ballerina: Sex, Scandal and Suffering Behind the Sumbol of Perfection, are national best sellers. In 2014, she won the Nathan Cohen Award for Excellence in Theatre Criticism (Long Form Category), Canada's most important arts criticism prize. Married with two children, she lives in Toronto. |
