DESCRIPTION:The Indexing Society of Canada / Société canadienne d’indexation (ISC/SCI) is pleased to announce that this year’s annual conference is taking place from the comfort of home from May 27 to 29\, 2021. The theme is “Indexing Unlimited”. The conference sessions will cover a variety of topics to help indexers improve their indexing practice and make their businesses thrive. \nOne new feature is designed especially for new indexers. The online Fireside Chat hosted by Stephen Ullstrom and Margaret DeBoer will give them the opportunity to talk in a group setting with an experienced indexer on the transition from student to practicing indexer. \nNetworking has always been an important component of the annual conference\, and this year will be no different. Plans are in the works for activities that will help indexers meet new friends and catch with up with old ones. \nThis conference will give you a variety of topics to help you improve your indexing practice and make your business thrive\, including: \n\nCreating an award-winning index\, from a panel of Ewart-Daveluy award winners\nEditing your index to take it to the next level\nBuilding client relationships\nQuoting on projects\nThe new NISO standard for indexes (NISO is the National Information Standards Organization)\nAnd more\n\nAlso featured: \n\nKeynote speaker Raegan Swanson from The ArQuives (The Canadian Lesbian + Gay Archives)\nJenny Higgins\, former Wikipedian-in-Residence at Memorial University in Newfoundland\nAnnouncement of the winner of the Ewart-Daveluy Award for Indexing Excellence\n\nEach day there will be lots of fun activities to help you meet your fellow indexers. \nCan’t make the whole conference? SUMMARY:LiterASIAN: The Pender Guy Radio Collective\, 1976-1981 - The Reunion Show
DESCRIPTION:This year’s festival GlobalAsian: from Grassroots to Globalization features authors and cultural activists from not only Canada\, but across the Asian diaspora. As “Asian” cannot easily be defined within geographical borders of one continent\, but rather a conceptual collection of experiences and memories\, LiterASIAN shines a spotlight that critically examines what it means to be a storyteller of Asian descent. \nThis is the second year that LiterASIAN will be virtually broadcast live across the world festival will feature events featuring authors from across North America and the world. \n  \nPaul Yee\, Ramona Mar\, Tommy Tao\, Jeannie Young\, Christy Fong\, Rachel Lau\, June Chow\nModerated by Winnie L. Cheung \nThe Pender Guy radio collective grew out of a wave of Chinese Canadian youth activism in the early 1970s\, running their operations from Vancouver’s Chinatown. Airing on Vancouver Co-operative Radio (Co-op Radio)\, the show explored issues related to Chinese-Canadian identity\, history\, politics\, and art through news reporting\, interviews\, humour\, drama\, and music. Produced entirely by volunteers\, the Pender Guy offered a way for young Chinese Canadians to gain community media skills and counter mainstream media representation of Chinatown and Chinese Canadians. With the City of Vancouver Archives’ recent digitization of the audio tapes\, these tapes are now accessible entirely online\, becoming an oral history archive of a formative period of Asian Canadian history.
