DESCRIPTION:1st OTTAWA BLACK FILM FESTIVAL opens with Ignacio Márquez’s THE SPECIAL\nFull Program & All Access Passes at www.OttawaBlackFilm.com \nMarch 25 – 28\, 2021 | ONLINE \nThe inaugural Ottawa Black Film Festival #OBFF21\, founded by the Fabienne Colas Foundation and supported by Canadian Heritage\, is thrilled to announce the official online program and events lineup\, running March 25 – 28\, 2021. Join the festival and support diversity off & on screen. \n#OBFF21 promises to inspire through a strong\, diverse\, and bold programming\, available entirely ONLINE across Canada and around the World. Through 30 films and various panels\, this inaugural Online edition highlights the tales and events that have challenged conventions\, left a distinctive mark on our times\, and changed how we see the world. \nThe Festival will open on Thursday\, March 25 at 7pm EST with Ignacio Márquez’s THE SPECIAL. Then\, as of 10pm EST all the films will be accessible online. The Festival will close with Mia Donovan’s DOPE IS DEATH. This year’s highlights include Sonia Lowman’s BLACK BOYS\, produced by NFL New Orleans Saints’ safety Malcolm Jenkins\, Cheryl Foggo’s JOHN WARE RECLAIMED\, Michele Stephenson’s STATELESS and the Fabienne Colas Foundation’s BEING BLACK IN CANADA short film series. \nThe OBFF Black Market – an industry series where renowned industry professionals share real-world experience on today’s most critical filmmaking and social issues – will present an exciting blend of cutting-edge thinking panel discussion. \nThe #OBFF21 All Access Pass is available for only $29 and gives access to all films. \nPasses can be purchased on the Festival’s Website. \nPress Release HERE. Canadian Authors – Toronto’s next program\, Tips from Across the Table: An Author-Editor Roundtable on Thursday\, March 25\, at 7:30 pm\, will open the door to fostering the best possible works and\, ideally\, getting them onto the bestseller’s list. This joint presentation with Canadian Authors–Toronto and Editors Toronto will bring together writers and editors to discuss writing strategies\, editing tricks and best-kept publishing secrets. \n  \nABOUT OUR PANELISTS \nMorgan Christie’s work has appeared in Room\, Aethlon\, Moko\, Obra/Artifact\, Blackberry\, and BLF Press\, among others\, and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her poetry chapbook Variations on a Lobster’s Tale won the 2017 Alexander Posey Chapbook Prize (University of Central Oklahoma Press). She has also released the poetry chapbook Sterling (CW Books) and the full-length short story manuscript These Bodies (Tolsun Publishing). Her most recent poetry chapbook\, when they come (Black Sunflowers Press)\, is featured in the Forward Arts Foundation’s National Poetry Day exhibit. (A copy of when they come will be given away as a digital door prize to one lucky winner during our event). \nJessica de Bruyn is a freelance substantive editor and writing coach. She works directly with independent authors and has worked with a variety of literary agencies. Jessica is the in-house editor at SoYouWanttoWrite.org and a judge for the Ink & Insight Writing Contest. She is also a co-host for the podcast Pub Hub\, which is a behind-the-scenes look at the publishing industry\, and is the programs chair for Editors Toronto. \nJeremy Lucyk began his (fourth) career as a professional editor in 2009. He has worked freelance and in-house for publishers large and small\, and directly with authors across multiple fields and genres. A graduate of both the University of Toronto and Centennial College\, he has taught editing in the latter’s Publishing: Book\, Magazine & Electronic program since 2015. \nTerese Mason Pierre is the author of chapbooks Surface Area (Anstruther Press\, 2019) and Manifest (Gap Riot Press\, 2020). She is the co-editor-in-chief of Augur Magazine\, a speculative fiction journal.
