SUMMARY:The Festival of Literary Diversity Kids Bookfest: After Hours - Getting Reel with Adam Garnet Jones [15+]
DESCRIPTION:The FOLD Kids Bookfest includes a fantastic array of events featuring a diverse array of authors and illustrators who’ve created books for young people (ages 0-18). In addition to events centred around children and young people\, the festival includes opportunities for adult writers of children’s literature to take part in pitch sessions and to develop their craft through in-person workshops with the festival’s incredible lineup of authors. \n  \n \n  \n  \nAfter Hours: Getting Reel with Adam Garnet Jones – Due to mature themes\, this event is recommended for young people 14+ \nFire Song follows the story of Shane\, a gay Anishinaabe teenager\, reeling after the suicide of his kid sister. In this conversation about the young adult novel that was adapted from his award-winning film\, Adam Garnet Jones unpacks what it means to write difficult stories that shed light on important narratives and moments. He’ll be interviewed by Anu Radha Verma from QTBIPOC sauga and Hayley Moody from Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line. The film can be viewed by Canadians on CBC Gem (Click here).
