SUMMARY:Canadian Authors – Peterborough: Writing Lyrics with Rick Fines
DESCRIPTION:Engaging lyrics put into words the emotion of a song. Rick Fines will talk about how he writes and break down his approach with segments such as The notebook\, Writing Tips\, The long view\, and Improvising lyrics. \n“I try to write something that expresses my thoughts and feelings. I do look for the universal\, so that the listener may relate. I don’t look for “hooks” to make pop success\, but I do spend a lot of time thinking about matching music to words (sometimes vice versa) to elevate the words.” \nRick will also perform a couple of songs from his latest album “Solar Powered Too.” \nFree and open to all CAA Members and guests via Zoom\, with limited registration. Please register by emailing ptbocaa@gmail.com. \n  \nCanadian roots music vet Rick Fines has had a long and storied career as one of the country’s hardest working musicians. He has toured across Canada countless times solo\, as a duo or with a full band and has recorded over 14 albums and has been a guest of many others. An engaging storyteller and songwriter\, he was won the Maple Blues Awards for Songwriter of the Year and Acoustic Act Of The Year (twice)\, won first place in the blues category of the 2003 International Song writing Competition\, with B. B. King one of the judges\, received nominations from both the Juno and the Handy Awards\, played for legendary blues piano player Pinetop Perkins. Rick has toured from Newfoundland to B.C. to the Artic. \nRick has just released “Solar Powered Too” – a stunning collection of songs; stories are sung in Fines’ richly textured voice\, a voyage through blues and folk guitar styles. “Solar Powered Too” was nominated for the 2021 Juno Awards “Best Blues Album”.
