SUMMARY:5 Poets Breaking Into Song (Liberation Celebration)
DESCRIPTION:During the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020\, George Elliott Clarke\, Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada (2016-17) and Toronto Poet Laureate (2012-2015)\, began to commission composers to set Canadian poems to music. He now has 71 poems/songs to share in his signature series “5 Poets Breaking Into Song”. At each event a vocalist and a pianist perform 8 songs by 5 or 6 poets and the audience also hears brief readings by 5 poets. \nThe Heliconian Hall event is #17 in the series and will feature presentations of poems and songs primarily by women. The theme of the event is “Liberation Celebration”.
