Bernice Lever is Canadian Authors-Metro Vancouver official Writer-in-Residence. She’s a former editor with the Dundurn Group, the author of 11 poetry and a few non-fiction prose books, a winner of several awards and is a Life Member of Canadian Authors.

Submission Criteria
Bernice suggests that writers query her first, to make arrangements, discuss timing and the steps required. She will edit and evaluate for markets on the first 20 pages of your manuscript. Once the evaluation is complete, an agreement for the entire manuscript can be discussed.

Submissions
After contacting Bernice, submit up to 20 pages of your manuscript. Submissions must be printed, double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman and mailed.

Fees
Canadian Authors Members: $25 for per 20 typed double-spaced pages, then $2 per additional page.
Non-members: $50 for per 20 typed double-spaced pages, then usually $2 per additional page.

Bernice Lever, MA English, York University, and Canadian Authors Vancouver Writer-in-Residence, taught English and Creative Writing at Toronto area colleges for decades. Her prose books include a composition textbook for Seneca College. She is well known for editing WAVES, a literary magazine, for fifteen years from 1972-1987. She has 11 poetry books published: four are joint books. Among her prize winning poems, she includes an Honourable Mention in poetry for “Wanting an Answer” in the 2013 Federation of BC Writers contest. She has created a CD writing and grammar text: The Colour of Words. Currently, she is busy writing, doing freelance editing, leading workshops, and giving readings. She enjoys performing her poems and prose pieces in many settings and has read and been published on five continents. Bernice has won awards for her poems, and in 2004, she won the prestigious Canadian Authors Association Allan Sangster Award, for meritorious service to the Canadian Authors Association.

A Life Member of the Canadian Authors Association and the Canadian Poetry Association, she also belongs to other writing organizations, including the Federation of BC Writers. She is on the national board of directors of Canadian Authors, and has held the position of Writer-in-Residence with the Metro Vancouver Branch since 2006.
