DESCRIPTION:Featuring CAA Member JF Garrard. \nCanada Fiction Fest is the brainchild of Ottawa fantasy author N.P. Thompson. Like all the best things in life\, it started with a question: “What if…?” \nIn this case\, it was actually a series of questions: \n\n\n“What if there was an event where Canadian authors — traditionally published\, independent\, and hybrid — all worked together to bring attention to the Canadian book scene and wealth of literary talent we have in this country?”\n“What if there was a place where people could browse a whole bunch of books written by Canadian authors from all across the country\, so they could SEE the awesomeness that is available right here at home?”\n“What if we ALSO had events\, like discussions and readings that people could watch?”\n“And what if this was all completely online so that anyone with an Internet connection could have fun with it\, no matter where they lived\, or what their health\, mobility\, or financial limitations might be?”\n\n\nWhen N.P. initially reached out to a few author friends about the possibility of running such an event\, there seemed to be a lot of interest. So\, she threw herself into researching and coding and website building and form testing and generally burning the candle at both ends while also juggling a full-time day job and working on her next book. \nThis is the result. \nIf you’re an author looking for information about participating in future Canada Fiction Fest events\, you can find it in FAQ for Authors. Spanning five engaging events throughout the summer and fall\, Tall Pine Tales invites audiences to gather\, listen\, and be transported by the written word. \nConceived by the late Melody Richardson\, this enduring series continues to honour her vision of nurturing and celebrating local writers—both emerging and established. Each event features a lively lineup of readers sharing works that range from historical fiction and heartfelt poetry to humorous memoirs\, suspenseful short stories\, and captivating novel excerpts. \nThese evenings are a reminder of the incredible creative spirit that lives right here in the community. There is something truly special hearing a story from the author’s own voice. \nThis year’s series began at the Gravenhurst Public Library on May 27\, with four more opportunities ahead for audiences to experience the magic of Tall Pine Tales.
